Zbigniew Pilch
VIOLINIST & CONDUCTOR

Biography
One of the most outstanding Baroque violinists, an artist with very wide interests, which include instrumental music from the 16th to the 21st centuries, with particular emphasis on virtuoso violin literature. He plays Baroque and modern violins, viola, and viola d’amore. He performs as a soloist, chamber musician and director.

Zbigniew Pilch - Violinist
As an artist, I am interested in the whole of violin music from the beginning of the 16th century to modern times. I focus on playing historical instruments in the broad sense of the term. For me, a historical instrument is not only a Baroque violin, but also other instruments of bygone eras. These are Renaissance and Romantic violins, as well as viola and viola d'amore.

Zbigniew Pilch - Conductor
Conducting, too, is an activity that I am passionate about and to which I devote a large part of my time. However, it is not about conducting in the classical sense of the word, with the baton in hand. What I mean is the historical way of conducting orchestras in the symphonic as well as operatic and oratorio repertoire, that is playing-directing. This was the prevailing and universal performance practice in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Repertoire
As the Baroque and Classical repertoire is extremely extensive and diverse, there are many possible programme variants (also for different line-ups: string orchestra alone, string orchestra with wind instruments, oratorio music with the participation of one or more vocalists, a choir or a soloist-instrumentalist). These can be “theme” concerts, e.g. concerts built around a composer, Passion concerts, as well as concerts presenting one or several trends in music of a given period (e.g. French music from the times of Louis XIV, virtuoso music of the Italian Baroque, etc.).
